Some difficulties are not symptoms. A person can sleep well, function at work, have a reasonable marriage and no diagnosable condition, and still arrive at a settled sense that something is missing — that the life they built does not answer the question they are actually asking.

What Spiritual Counselling Is

It is a conversation about meaning, conducted with someone trained to hold it. Not religious instruction, and not a set of answers handed to you. The practitioner's job is to help you examine what you actually believe, what you were given and never questioned, and what you want your life to be organised around.

Taanya Nagi works within no single tradition and does not require you to hold any particular faith. Clients come from Hindu, Sikh, Muslim, Christian, Jain and entirely secular backgrounds. What they share is a question rather than a doctrine.

What People Actually Bring

  • «A sense of emptiness that arrived after achieving what was supposed to resolve it — the promotion, the house, the marriage.
  • «Bereavement that has raised questions about what happens after death, which a grief counsellor may not be equipped to sit with.
  • «A crisis of faith, in either direction — losing a belief that held everything together, or finding one that does not fit the family.
  • «The midlife recognition that you have been living someone else's plan.
  • «Guilt or moral injury from something you did or failed to do, where the issue is not psychological but ethical.
  • «A serious diagnosis, in yourself or someone close, that has made the questions urgent.
  • «Practices — meditation, prayer, seva — that have stopped meaning anything and become obligation.

How It Differs From Ordinary Counselling

Counselling psychology asks what is wrong and how it can be improved. Spiritual counselling asks what this is for, which is a different kind of question and does not always have a resolution.

In practice the difference shows in what gets treated as a problem. A therapist may hear a preoccupation with mortality as anxiety to be managed. In spiritual counselling it is taken as a legitimate subject in its own right, worth thinking about carefully rather than reducing.

That said, the two frequently overlap and Taanya is trained in both. Where a spiritual question turns out to be depression wearing a philosophical costume, that gets named. The reverse also happens: people arrive expecting to work on anxiety and find the actual issue is that they do not believe their life means anything.

What a Session Involves

Sessions run fifty to sixty minutes, in person at Anand Niketan or online. There is no fixed programme. Early sessions are usually spent working out what the real question is, which is often not the one you arrived with.

Depending on what emerges, the work may draw on guided reflection, meditation practice, inner child work, or past life regression where a client is drawn to it. None of these is imposed, and you are free to decline any of them and continue with conversation alone.

Some people come for a handful of sessions during a specific crisis. Others return periodically over years, which is a perfectly reasonable way to use this.

On Honesty About What This Is — Spiritual Counselling in South Delhi

On Honesty About What This Is

It is also worth saying that nobody here will tell you what to believe. A practitioner who arrives with the answers is selling a position rather than helping you find your own, and that distinction matters enormously in this field, where the people seeking help are often at their most suggestible.

Spiritual counselling is not medical or psychiatric treatment and is not a substitute for either. It does not diagnose, and it does not cure illness. If you are experiencing symptoms of a mental health condition — persistent low mood, panic, thoughts of self-harm — that needs clinical attention alongside or instead of this work. Anyone offering spiritual guidance as a replacement for medical care is not acting responsibly.

Taanya Nagi's Background

MA in Counselling Psychology and BA (Hons) in Behavioural Sciences, alongside more than twenty-five years as a Usui Reiki Master. She is a certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, holds an Australian-accredited Diploma in Holistic Living Counselling, and is certified in inner child healing, past life regression, meditation therapy and Advanced Pranic Healing. She is a member of the Australian Holistic Healers Association.

That combination — clinical training alongside twenty-five years of contemplative practice — is what allows the work to move between the psychological and the spiritual without pretending they are the same thing.

Questions & Answers

Everything you need to know before booking your first session.

Do I need to be religious for spiritual counselling?+

No. Many clients hold no religious belief at all and come because questions of meaning and purpose have become pressing. The work follows your own framework rather than importing one.

Is this the same as therapy?+

No, though they overlap and the same practitioner offers both here. Therapy works on psychological difficulty; spiritual counselling works on questions of meaning, purpose and values. Where one turns out to be the other, that is named rather than glossed over.

Will you tell me what to believe?+

No, and you should be wary of anyone who does. The work is to help you examine what you already hold, what you inherited without choosing, and what you want to build on. The conclusions are yours.

Can spiritual counselling help with depression?+

It can be a valuable part of the picture, and it is not a treatment for depression. If you have persistent low mood, loss of interest or thoughts of self-harm, that needs proper clinical attention. The two can run alongside each other.

How many sessions will I need?+

There is no standard answer. Some people come for four to six sessions during a specific crisis. Others return occasionally over years as questions resurface. Both are legitimate uses of it.
