“Dr. (Hon.) Taanya Nagi is an Australian-trained holistic counsellor and clinical hypnotherapist who works online with Indian families across Canada. She holds an MA in Counselling Psychology and a Diploma in Holistic Healing & Counselling from the Holistic Living Training Institute in Melbourne, is a certified member of the Australian Holistic Healers & Counsellors Association (AHHCA), and spent thirteen years living and practising in Australia — a country whose Indian community looks, in most of the ways that matter, very much like Canada's.”
That experience is the point. Canada's Indian community is now well over a million people, concentrated in Brampton, Mississauga, Surrey and the wider Toronto and Vancouver regions, with a large Punjabi presence and a newer wave of students and temporary workers. A recurring frustration among those who try therapy is the session time spent on background — why a parent's disapproval carries the weight it does, why moving out at twenty was never on the table, why a phone call from India at an odd hour makes your stomach drop. Working with someone who has lived inside that world removes the explaining.
Treatment & Support

What Comes Up Most
- «Permanent residence and study-permit stress: applications that take years, permits that expire, the pressure of a family's savings riding on your outcome, and the provisional life that results
- «Parents ageing in India while you are here, and the guilt that no number of visits or video calls resolves
- «Joint-family expectations held at a distance — decisions about marriage, money and children still routed through relatives ten thousand kilometres away
- «Marriage strain, including arranged marriages that have not become friendships, and the particular isolation of a spouse who arrived on a dependent visa
- «The second-generation position: raised in Canada, judged by standards from Punjab or Gujarat or Kerala, and belonging fully to neither
- «Anxiety, low mood and burnout in people working long hours, often in more than one job, with no room to admit they are struggling
- «Alcohol and other habits that are quietly managing all of the above

Why People Delay Getting Help
Mental health is still stigmatised in many Indian families, and the fear of it becoming known within a tight community network is real rather than imagined. In Brampton or Surrey, a local Punjabi-speaking counsellor may well be socially connected to your family, your gurdwara or your business. A practitioner in another country resolves that worry entirely. Sessions are confidential and the practice has no connection to any Canadian community organisation, temple or gurdwara.

Sessions Across the Time Difference
India is nine and a half to ten and a half hours ahead of Ontario and twelve and a half to thirteen and a half hours ahead of British Columbia, depending on the season. In practice an early-morning slot in Delhi is evening in Surrey and Vancouver and late evening in Brampton and Toronto — after the day is done and the house is quiet. A Delhi evening is a Canadian morning. Most clients keep a fixed weekly time, and Taanya adjusts for Canadian daylight saving at her end.
Sessions are by video, fifty to sixty minutes, in English, Hindi or Punjabi. Many people find that material they have never put into English comes out far more directly in the language they grew up speaking.

What Is Available
Depending on what you bring, the work may draw on counselling, clinical hypnotherapy, NLP-based coaching, EFT tapping, inner child work or Reiki. Taanya is trained across all of these and matches the approach to the person. Individual, couples and family sessions are available, including calls that bring in a parent in India.

How This Works
Some things are best stated once and plainly. The practice is based in New Delhi and Canadian clients are seen online only; there is no clinic in Canada. Taanya is not registered with any Canadian regulator — not with the provincial colleges such as the CRPO or the CPO in Ontario, nor their counterparts in British Columbia, Alberta or any other province — and she works with Canadian clients as a holistic counsellor and clinical hypnotherapist rather than as a registered psychologist or psychotherapist. She does not diagnose or prescribe medication. Fees are private and are not reimbursable through provincial health plans or, in almost all cases, extended health benefits. And this is not a crisis service: if you are in Canada and in immediate danger, call or text 988, which operates around the clock in English and French, or call 911.

Questions & Answers
Everything you need to know before booking your first session.
Can you help with my relationship with my parents in India?+
This is one of the most common reasons people in Canada get in touch. The work usually covers expectation, guilt, boundaries that do not translate cleanly into an Indian family, and the specific grief of caring for ageing parents from another continent.
I am on a study permit and my family has invested everything in this. Is that something you work with?+
Yes, and it is more common than people think. The pressure of a family's savings and hopes riding on an outcome you only partly control produces a very particular anxiety, and it deserves to be taken seriously rather than dismissed as homesickness.
Will anyone in my community find out?+
No. Sessions are confidential and the practice has no connection to any Canadian gurdwara, temple, community organisation or business network. Several clients choose an overseas practitioner for exactly this reason.
Can we speak in Punjabi?+
Yes. Sessions are available in Punjabi, Hindi and English, and moving between them within a session is entirely normal.
Is this the same as seeing a registered therapist in Canada?+
No, and the distinction matters. Taanya holds no Canadian registration and does not provide diagnosis or medication. This is holistic counselling and hypnotherapy from an Australian-trained practitioner. If you need a registered clinician or a report for an insurer, employer or court, you need a provider registered in your province.
