What UK Registration Would and Would Not Mean
Counselling and psychotherapy are not statutorily regulated in the UK. Anyone may call themselves a counsellor or psychotherapist, which surprises most people who assume otherwise. What exists instead are voluntary registers — BACP, UKCP, NCPS — several of them accredited by the Professional Standards Authority, which set training standards and provide a complaints route.
"Practitioner psychologist", "counselling psychologist" and "clinical psychologist" are different: those titles are protected by law in the UK and restricted to HCPC registrants.
Taanya holds an MA in Counselling Psychology from India and practises there as a counselling psychologist. She is not HCPC-registered and does not hold that title in a UK regulatory sense. With UK clients she works as a counsellor and clinical hypnotherapist. That distinction is set out here because it is the sort of thing that ought to be volunteered.

What the NHS Offers, and Why You Should Check It First
If you are in England, you can self-refer to NHS Talking Therapies without going through your GP. It is free, and for anxiety and depression it is the sensible first port of call. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their own routes, generally through a GP.
Waiting times vary considerably and that is a real reason people look elsewhere. But it is worth knowing that the free option exists and does not require anyone's permission, rather than finding out afterwards.
Where you need something the NHS provides and this does not — a formal diagnosis, medication, a care coordinator, crisis support — you need UK-based services. Nothing here substitutes for them.

Where This Genuinely Fits
For a great many UK clients, particularly British Indians, the draw is not price or waiting lists. It is being able to talk about family without translating it first.
Alongside that: people who want holistic work — hypnotherapy, Reiki, energy healing — which the NHS does not provide. People who have already done a course of CBT and want something different. People who want evening or weekend appointments without a six-month wait. And people who simply want to choose their therapist rather than be assigned one.

The Time Difference, Honestly
This is the least convenient of the time zones this practice works across. India runs four and a half hours ahead of the UK in summer and five and a half in winter.
What that means practically: a UK lunchtime or early-afternoon session lands in the Delhi evening and is the easiest slot to fill. A 5pm or 6pm UK session lands at around 10.30pm in Delhi, which is available but limited. UK weekend mornings and early afternoons work well.
What is genuinely difficult is a UK evening session after 7pm, and rather than pretend otherwise, it is better to say so before you book around it.

Questions & Answers
Everything you need to know before booking your first session.
Are you BACP or UKCP registered?+
No. Taanya practises in India and is not on any UK voluntary register, nor HCPC-registered. UK counselling is not statutorily regulated, so there is no licence being circumvented — but if a PSA-accredited register and its complaints procedure matter to you, you want a UK-registered practitioner.
Can I use this through the NHS or claim it on insurance?+
No to both. NHS provision requires NHS services, and UK health insurers reimburse recognised UK providers. Sessions here are paid privately.
Should I try NHS Talking Therapies first?+
If you are in England with anxiety or depression, it is a reasonable first step, it is free, and you can self-refer without a GP. Many people do both — an NHS course and private work — and there is no conflict in that.
What times can we meet?+
UK daytime and early afternoon are easiest, and weekend mornings work well. Evening slots after 7pm UK time are limited because of the time difference, and that is said upfront rather than discovered later.
Can sessions be in Hindi or Punjabi?+
Sessions run in English or Hindi. Bilingual clients frequently move between the two, particularly once the material gets harder.
What if I need urgent help?+
This is not a crisis service and the time difference makes it unsuitable as one. In the UK, call 999 in an emergency, NHS 111 and select the mental health option, or Samaritans free on 116 123 at any hour. You can also text SHOUT to 85258.
