Hypnotherapy Regulation in the UK, Plainly
Hypnotherapy is not statutorily regulated in the UK. There is no licence and no legal restriction on the title — anyone may describe themselves as a hypnotherapist tomorrow.
There are voluntary registers such as the CNHC and the General Hypnotherapy Register, which set training standards and provide a complaints route. Taanya is not on them, and holds certification as a clinical hypnotherapist from her training in India.
The practical upshot: since regulation will not do the vetting for you in this field either way, ask any hypnotherapist what they trained in, how long it took, who accredited it, and how many years they have practised. Including this one.

Why It Works Over Video
In-person hypnotherapy asks you to relax deeply in an unfamiliar room, in a chair that is not yours, with someone you met half an hour earlier. Video removes all of that. You are at home, in your own space, with the door shut.
Most people go into hypnosis more readily at home than in a clinic. The mechanics are unchanged — the induction, the suggestions and your responses are all spoken — and none of it requires the therapist to be physically present.

What It Is Used For
A single focused issue commonly resolves in three to five sessions. Where something older sits underneath it, it takes longer, and you will be told so rather than sold a package.
- «Stopping smoking and vaping, generally after willpower has already been tried
- «Weight and emotional eating, where the driver is stress rather than diet
- «Phobias — flying, needles, dentists, driving, lifts, spiders
- «Anxiety and panic, particularly with an identifiable trigger
- «Insomnia, including the loop where fear of not sleeping is what prevents sleep
- «Confidence for a specific event — an interview, a presentation, a wedding speech
- «Exam and performance nerves

What It Will Not Do
You will not be unconscious, you will not lose control, and you cannot be made to do anything you would refuse to do awake. Stage hypnosis has done such thorough damage to public understanding of this that correcting it is a routine part of a first session.
Hypnotherapy is not appropriate for psychosis, acute bipolar episodes or severe dissociation. It does not replace psychiatric care, and if you take medication you should stay on it and speak to your prescriber before changing anything.
It also does not recover reliable memories. Memory does not work that way, and anyone offering to retrieve buried memories as established fact is claiming more than the evidence supports.

Scheduling from the UK
India is four and a half hours ahead of the UK in summer, five and a half in winter.
UK daytime sessions — late morning through mid-afternoon — land in the Delhi evening and are the easiest to arrange. Weekend mornings work well. Late UK evenings are limited, which is worth knowing before you plan around one.
Allow ninety minutes for a first session. Afterwards most people are pleasantly slow for half an hour, so it is worth not scheduling anything demanding straight after.

Questions & Answers
Everything you need to know before booking your first session.
Is hypnotherapy regulated in the UK?+
No. It is not statutorily regulated and the title is not protected. Voluntary registers such as the CNHC and GHR exist and are worth understanding — Taanya is not on them, and her clinical hypnotherapy certification is from her training in India.
Does it work as well online?+
Yes, and often better, because relaxing is easier somewhere familiar. Use headphones and a room where you will not be interrupted.
How many sessions will I need?+
Three to five for a single focused issue such as a phobia or smoking. Patterns with a long history take longer, and you will get an honest estimate after the first session.
What if I do not go under?+
Very few people are genuinely unhypnotisable. Many expect a dramatic loss of awareness, hear everything, and conclude it failed. Hearing everything is normal — depth is not the measure, response is.
Can I claim this on insurance?+
No. UK insurers reimburse recognised UK providers. These sessions are paid privately.
What if I need urgent help?+
This is not a crisis service. In the UK, call 999 in an emergency, NHS 111 and select the mental health option, or Samaritans free on 116 123.
