Understanding Grief and Loss
Grief is a natural response to losing someone or something deeply important to you. It can be an overwhelming, confusing, and painful experience. Whether you are grieving the loss of a loved one, a relationship, a job, or your health, it is important to remember that there is no right or wrong way to grieve. Everyone processes loss in their own time and in their own way.
Taanya Nagi offers compassionate Grief & Loss counselling in South Delhi, helping individuals navigate their feelings, find comforting support, and heal naturally without relying on medication.

How Grief Counselling Can Help You
Grief counselling provides a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space to express your feelings and make sense of your loss. Through compassionate guidance, you will explore coping strategies, process difficult emotions like anger and guilt, and learn to honor your memories while gently moving forward in your life.

Grief Does Not Follow Stages
The five stages are widely quoted and were never intended as a sequence you pass through in order. Real grief is far less tidy. It arrives in waves, doubles back, and produces feelings that people are ashamed of — relief, anger at the person who died, numbness where they expected devastation.
A great deal of the distress people bring here is not the grief itself. It is the belief that they are grieving incorrectly.
- «Feeling nothing at first, and fearing that means you did not love them
- «Relief after a long illness, and guilt about the relief
- «Anger at the person for leaving, for the state of their affairs, for things unsaid
- «Functioning normally for weeks, then being undone by something trivial
- «Grief resurfacing years later at an anniversary or a birth
- «Being told you should be over it by now, most often by people who mean well

Losses That Get Less Room
Some losses are not socially recognised as grief, which leaves people to carry them without support: a miscarriage, an estrangement, the end of a marriage, a diagnosis that ends a future you had assumed, a friend rather than a relative, or someone whose relationship with you was complicated.
Grief after a difficult relationship is often the hardest of all, because you are mourning both the person and the relationship you never managed to have with them.

What Counselling Offers
- «A place where the feeling does not have to be managed for anyone else's comfort
- «Permission for the responses that feel wrong, which are almost always normal
- «Support through the practical aftermath, which frequently arrives before the grief does
- «Help where grief has become stuck, or has tipped into depression
- «Work on the relationship as it actually was, rather than the version required at the funeral
- «Space to say the things that were never said

Questions & Answers
Everything you need to know before booking your first session.
What is the difference between grief and depression?+
While both involve intense sadness and social withdrawal, grief is a natural reaction to a specific loss, and feelings of self-esteem usually remain intact. Depression, on the other hand, is a clinical condition characterized by persistent feelings of worthlessness, self-loathing, and hopelessness that are not necessarily tied to a recent loss.
How long does grief counselling last?+
The duration of grief counselling depends entirely on the individual's needs and their unique journey. Some clients find comfort in a few sessions, while others benefit from ongoing support over several months.
How long should grief take?+
There is no schedule, and anyone who gives you one is wrong. What generally changes is not the intensity of the loss but the amount of your life it occupies. Waves become less frequent; they do not stop entirely, and they are not supposed to.
Is it too late? It was years ago.+
No. Grief that was set aside at the time — because there were children to manage, or a family to hold together — very often waits. People do this work decades later with real benefit.
Is this grief or depression?+
They overlap and grief can develop into depression. Broadly, grief comes in waves and retains some capacity for connection and pleasure between them; depression is flatter and more constant. If it has become the second, that is treated too.
