The Deciding Stage
Most people spend far longer here than they expect — often years. The characteristic experience is oscillation: certain on Tuesday, certain of the opposite on Thursday, and exhausted by the constant re-litigation.
Where both partners are willing, marriage counselling is often the right first step. Where only one is willing, individual work is still valuable — a great deal can shift when one person changes.
- «Separating what you feel about your partner from what you fear about the consequences
- «Working out whether this is a marriage in difficulty or a marriage that has ended
- «Naming what you would need to see change, specifically, and whether it is possible
- «Understanding the part you have played, which matters whether you stay or go
- «Looking honestly at what leaving would actually involve rather than at the version in your head

The Indian Context
Divorce in India carries pressures that Western therapy models rarely address, and pretending otherwise is not useful.
None of this is dismissed here as something you should simply rise above. It is part of the actual decision and it gets treated as such.
- «Family involvement is direct and often relentless, from both sides, frequently framed as concern
- «Community and reputational consequences that are real, not imagined, particularly for women
- «Financial dependence that makes leaving genuinely difficult rather than merely frightening
- «The expectation that a woman should adjust, and the length of time that expectation is applied
- «Concern about children's marriage prospects, raised by relatives as though it settles the matter
- «Men facing a near-total absence of permission to be distressed about it

Afterwards
The end of a marriage is a bereavement, including when it was the right decision and including when you initiated it. People are frequently unprepared for grieving something they wanted to end.
- «Grief that arrives out of order and does not respect your reasoning
- «Rebuilding an identity that was substantially built around being married
- «Co-parenting with someone you may not want to speak to
- «Managing family who have taken sides, or who continue to campaign
- «Working out what you actually want, possibly for the first time in years
- «Approaching the possibility of another relationship without carrying the whole of this one into it

Questions & Answers
Everything you need to know before booking your first session.
Will you tell me whether to leave?+
No. That decision has to be yours, because you are the one who lives with it. What you will get is a space to think without anyone campaigning, which most people going through this do not have anywhere else.
My spouse will not attend. Is there any point?+
Yes. Individual work is useful whether the marriage continues or ends. One person changing how they respond frequently changes the dynamic more than expected.
Can you help with the legal side?+
No — that requires a lawyer, and you should have one. This work covers the emotional and practical decision-making, not legal advice.
Is it confidential? My family is involved in everything.+
Entirely. Nothing is discussed with family, in-laws or your spouse. This is one of the few places in the process where that is true.
How long does this take?+
The deciding stage varies enormously. The rebuilding stage typically runs several months. Sessions are not open-ended by default and you can stop when it is no longer useful.
