Online Counselling and Therapy for Chennai
In Chennai the hardest part of therapy is often not the therapy. It is arranging to have it without the family, the neighbours or the office finding out, which is exactly the problem an online session from Delhi solves.

Dr. (Hon.) Taanya Nagi holds an MA in Counselling Psychology and a Diploma in Holistic Healing & Counselling from the Holistic Living Training Institute in Melbourne, is a certified member of the Australian Holistic Healers & Counsellors Association (AHHCA), and practised in Australia for thirteen years before returning to India. She is a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, NLP Life Coach and Usui Reiki Master with more than twenty-five years of practice, and she works online with clients across India from New Delhi, in English or Hindi.
Chennai clients are along the IT corridor on Old Mahabalipuram Road — Sholinganallur, Siruseri, Tidel Park — in Velachery, Adyar and Anna Nagar, in T. Nagar and Mylapore, and in the auto and manufacturing belt towards Sriperumbudur and Ambattur. Most work in English, live in Tamil, and manage the two carefully.
Treatment & Support

Why Chennai clients choose online
Chennai is a city where family opinion still carries real weight, and where being seen entering a psychologist's office can become a conversation in the extended family within a week. For a large share of clients the appeal of a practitioner in another city is straightforward: nobody they know will ever meet her, and nobody will see them go. Distance is a form of confidentiality.
The second reason is the OMR commute. The IT corridor stretches for twenty-five kilometres, and an appointment in the older city at the end of a working day means an hour or more on the road each way. Video from home or from a booked room in the office keeps the appointment realistic.

What Chennai clients come with
- «Marriage pressure in the late twenties and early thirties: the horoscope matching, the relatives' enquiries, and the gap between what the client wants and what would be acceptable at home
- «Anxiety and low mood carried quietly for years because talking about it would be treated as weakness or, worse, as a reflection on the parents
- «Burnout along the IT corridor, where project deadlines timed to overseas clients have eaten the evenings, and a long commute has eaten what was left
- «Daughters-in-law in traditional Tamil households negotiating a role that their education did not prepare them for, and sons caught between a wife and a mother
- «Grief and caregiving strain, particularly for adults looking after parents at home while holding down a full-time job
- «Young men and women who have moved back in with parents for financial reasons and are finding the return harder than expected

Sessions around Chennai hours
Chennai and Delhi share a time zone. Early-morning slots exist for people who leave for OMR before the traffic, late-evening slots for those whose working day is timed to a client abroad, and weekend sessions are available. Many Chennai clients prefer a weekday morning, when the household has left for work and school.
Privacy at home is the question that comes up first. Chennai flats tend to have thin walls and an open door to the neighbour, and a parent or in-law is often home during the day. What works: headphones without exception, which take half the conversation out of earshot; a slot when the house is empty; a parked car, which is the most common solution in Indian cities; or a booked meeting room at work. Nobody is obliged to tell family that they are in counselling. Sessions are confidential, and nothing is shared with anyone.

What is available
Counselling and psychotherapy for anxiety, depression, stress, grief and relationship difficulty. Clinical hypnotherapy for smoking, weight, phobias, sleep and performance anxiety. Couples and pre-marital counselling, including for engaged couples who want to talk honestly before the wedding. Life coaching and confidence work drawing on NLP. Distance Reiki, chakra work and EFT tapping for those who want them. Reiki training to Master level is taught online, with attunements given at a distance. All of it is delivered by video, fifty to sixty minutes at a scheduled time.

How this works
Sessions are online from New Delhi. There is no clinic in Chennai, and in-person appointments are only available at D-96 Anand Niketan, New Delhi 110021. Taanya is a counselling psychologist, not a psychiatrist; she does not diagnose psychiatric illness or prescribe medication. Where medication or a psychiatric assessment is indicated she will say so and refer you to a psychiatrist in Chennai, which has psychiatry departments in its large hospitals and psychiatrists in private practice across the city. This is a scheduled service, not a crisis one: in immediate danger, call Tele-MANAS on 14416, KIRAN on 1800-599-0019 or 112, or go to the nearest emergency department.

Questions & Answers
Everything you need to know before booking your first session.
Is there a clinic in Chennai?+
No. The only consulting room is at Anand Niketan in South Delhi. Chennai clients are seen online by video. Anyone visiting Delhi is welcome to book an in-person session while they are there.
Are sessions in Hindi or English?+
Either. Taanya does not offer sessions in Tamil. Most Chennai clients work in English and are entirely comfortable in it for therapy; those who grew up with Hindi at home, or who moved to Chennai from the north, sometimes prefer it for family matters.
How do I keep sessions private at home?+
Headphones, a slot when the house is empty, a parked car, or a booked room at work. Sessions are not recorded and are confidential. You do not have to tell parents, in-laws or anyone else that you are in counselling.
How many sessions will I need?+
It depends on what you bring. Focused difficulties often respond in six to twelve sessions; longstanding patterns take longer. You should have a rough estimate after two or three sessions, revised openly as the work goes on.
What if I need urgent help?+
Call Tele-MANAS on 14416 or KIRAN on 1800-599-0019, both free and available around the clock, or 112. If you cannot stay safe, go to the nearest emergency department; online counselling cannot respond to an emergency.
