Online Counselling and Therapy for Kolkata
Kolkata is a city that talks more than most and says less about how it feels, and much of what its residents bring to therapy has been carried in silence through a large and attentive family.

Dr. (Hon.) Taanya Nagi holds an MA in Counselling Psychology and a Diploma in Holistic Healing & Counselling from the Holistic Living Training Institute in Melbourne, is a certified member of the Australian Holistic Healers & Counsellors Association (AHHCA), and practised in Australia for thirteen years before returning to India. She is a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, NLP Life Coach and Usui Reiki Master with more than twenty-five years of practice, and she works online with clients across India from New Delhi, in English or Hindi.
Kolkata clients are in Salt Lake and Sector V, in New Town and Rajarhat, in the south around Ballygunge, Jadavpur and Garia, in the old paras of North Kolkata, and across the river in Howrah. A good number are parents whose children are in Bengaluru, Pune or abroad, and adult children elsewhere in India who are worrying about parents in Kolkata.

Why Kolkata clients choose online
Kolkata runs at an older city's pace, and its therapy options reflect that: there are good practitioners, but fewer of them than the city's size would suggest, and the newer approaches — clinical hypnotherapy, EFT, energy work alongside counselling — are thin on the ground. Clients who want that combination from one practitioner generally have to look outside the city, and video makes the distance irrelevant.
The second reason is the family. In a Kolkata joint household, going to see a psychologist is not a private act; someone will ask where you went, and someone else will have an opinion. A session from a closed room, or from a parked car, with a practitioner nobody in the family has heard of, is private in a way a local appointment cannot be.

What Kolkata clients come with
- «Ageing parents living alone or with a single sibling because the others emigrated, and the guilt, resentment and exhaustion that follow whoever stayed
- «Parents themselves, in their sixties and seventies, in a large house that has gone quiet, whose children call every Sunday and are not coming back
- «Joint-family strain, particularly for a daughter-in-law whose education and job sit awkwardly with what the household expects of her
- «Low mood and a flatness that has become normal, in people who have been told that life is hard and one simply carries on
- «Career stagnation and the question of whether to leave Kolkata, weighed against parents, property and a city one genuinely loves
- «Grief, including the long grief of a house full of a parent's things, and the anniversaries and pujas that bring it back

Sessions around Kolkata hours
Kolkata and Delhi share a time zone, though Kolkata's day starts and ends earlier. Early-morning slots suit people who are up with the light; evening slots suit those on IT-sector hours; weekend sessions are available. Older clients often prefer a late-morning weekday slot, after the household has settled.
Privacy in a Kolkata home usually means privacy from family rather than from flatmates. Headphones remove half the conversation from anyone in the next room. A slot when the house is out, a parked car, or a booked meeting room at work all work. Nobody is obliged to tell their family that they are in counselling, and nothing is shared with anyone — including with an adult child abroad who may have suggested the session.

What is available
Counselling and psychotherapy for anxiety, depression, stress, grief and relationship difficulty. Clinical hypnotherapy for smoking, weight, phobias, sleep and performance anxiety. Couples and pre-marital counselling. Life coaching and confidence work drawing on NLP. Distance Reiki, chakra work and EFT tapping for those who want them; Reiki has a particular following in Kolkata, and training to Master level is taught online with attunements given at a distance. All of it is delivered by video, fifty to sixty minutes at a scheduled time.

How this works
Sessions are online from New Delhi. There is no clinic in Kolkata, and in-person appointments are only available at D-96 Anand Niketan, New Delhi 110021. Taanya is a counselling psychologist, not a psychiatrist; she does not diagnose psychiatric illness or prescribe medication. Where medication or a psychiatric assessment is indicated she will say so and refer you to a psychiatrist in Kolkata, which has a long tradition of psychiatry in its teaching hospitals and psychiatrists in private practice across the city. This is a scheduled service, not a crisis one: in immediate danger, call Tele-MANAS on 14416, KIRAN on 1800-599-0019 or 112, or go to the nearest emergency department.

Questions & Answers
Everything you need to know before booking your first session.
Is there a clinic in Kolkata?+
No. The only consulting room is at Anand Niketan in South Delhi. Kolkata clients are seen online by video. Anyone visiting Delhi is welcome to book an in-person session while they are there.
Are sessions in Hindi or English?+
Either, or a mix. Taanya does not offer sessions in Bengali. Most Kolkata clients are comfortable in English, and Hindi is widely spoken in the city's Marwari, Punjabi and Bihari households, where it is often the language people prefer for family matters.
How do I keep sessions private in a joint family?+
Headphones, a slot when the house is out, a parked car, or a booked room at work. Sessions are not recorded and are confidential. You do not have to tell your parents, in-laws or children that you are in counselling, and nothing is shared with a family member who may have arranged the first session.
How many sessions will I need?+
It depends on what you bring. Focused difficulties often respond in six to twelve sessions; longstanding patterns take longer. You should have a rough estimate after two or three sessions, revised openly as the work goes on.
What if I need urgent help?+
Call Tele-MANAS on 14416 or KIRAN on 1800-599-0019, both free and available around the clock, or 112. If you cannot stay safe, go to the nearest emergency department; online counselling cannot respond to an emergency.
