“Dr. (Hon.) Taanya Nagi works online with clients across New Zealand — in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch and beyond. She holds an MA in Counselling Psychology and a Diploma in Holistic Healing & Counselling from the Holistic Living Training Institute in Melbourne, is a certified member of the Australian Holistic Healers & Counsellors Association (AHHCA), and lived and practised in Australia for thirteen years. She has been doing this work for more than twenty-five years.”
For New Zealand clients the Australian training is the natural fit. The two countries share a professional culture, a migration story and, increasingly, an Indian community: New Zealand's is now among the fastest-growing in the country, concentrated in Auckland's south and west, with families from Punjab, Gujarat and Fiji alongside newer arrivals on work and student visas. Taanya lived the migrant position herself and understands its texture — parents ageing on the other side of the world, children more Kiwi than their parents expected, a visa that decides what the family can plan — without needing it explained from scratch. Clients with no Indian connection are equally welcome.
Treatment & Support

What People in New Zealand Come With
- «Anxiety and worry, and the low mood that can settle in over a long wet winter
- «Burnout and work stress, often in people holding a job that their residence application depends on
- «Isolation in a small country where everyone seems to know everyone
- «Guilt about parents ageing in India, and grief when a death there could not be reached in time
- «Marriage and relationship strain, including arranged marriages and cross-cultural partnerships
- «Residence and visa uncertainty, and the provisional life that comes with it
- «The second-generation position: raised in Auckland, judged by standards from somewhere else
- «Sleep, smoking, weight and phobias that people want addressed with hypnotherapy

Sessions Across the Time Difference
New Zealand is six and a half hours ahead of India in winter and seven and a half hours ahead during New Zealand daylight saving. In practice this is a comfortable arrangement. A Delhi morning is a New Zealand afternoon, and an early-afternoon slot in Delhi lands in the evening in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch — after work, after dinner, when the house has settled. Most clients keep one fixed weekly time, and Taanya makes the daylight-saving adjustments at her end when New Zealand changes its clocks in September and April.
Sessions are by video, fifty to sixty minutes, in English, Hindi or Punjabi. What online requires is a private space where you will not be overheard and a reasonable connection. Where privacy at home is the obstacle, say so — it is a common problem and there are usually workable solutions.

What Is Available
Depending on what you bring, the work may draw on counselling, clinical hypnotherapy, NLP-based coaching, EFT tapping, inner child work or Reiki. Taanya is trained across all of these, which means the approach can be matched to the person rather than the person to a single method. Couples sessions are available, and so are sessions that bring in a family member in India on the same call.
For clients in a small community whose main hesitation is that someone will find out, distance is the point. Sessions are confidential and the practice has no connection to any New Zealand community organisation, temple or gurdwara.

How This Works
A few things are worth stating plainly rather than leaving you to work out. The practice is based in New Delhi and New Zealand clients are seen online only; there is no clinic in New Zealand. Taanya is not registered with any New Zealand body — not with the New Zealand Psychologists Board nor the New Zealand Association of Counsellors — and she works with New Zealand clients as an Australian-trained holistic counsellor and clinical hypnotherapist, not as a registered New Zealand psychologist or counsellor. She does not diagnose or prescribe medication. Fees are private and are not funded by ACC, subsidised through a GP referral or, in most cases, reimbursed by health insurance. And this is a scheduled service, not a crisis one: if you are in New Zealand and in immediate distress, call or text 1737 to reach a trained counsellor at any hour, or call 111 in an emergency.

Questions & Answers
Everything you need to know before booking your first session.
Are you a registered psychologist or counsellor in New Zealand?+
No. Psychologist is a protected title in New Zealand under the Psychologists Board, and Taanya holds no New Zealand registration with that Board or with the NZAC. She works with New Zealand clients as a holistic counsellor and clinical hypnotherapist with Australian qualifications and AHHCA membership. If you need a registered clinician, a diagnosis or a report for an employer, insurer or court, you need a provider registered in New Zealand.
Is this covered by ACC or health insurance?+
No. ACC funds only its own approved providers, and GP-referred subsidised counselling goes to registered New Zealand practitioners. Fees are private. Some private health insurers have wellness allowances with broader rules; check with your insurer rather than assuming.
What time are sessions available for Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch?+
The whole of New Zealand is on one time zone, so the answer is the same everywhere: New Zealand afternoons and evenings, which are Delhi mornings and early afternoons. Sessions are arranged individually around your working hours.
Why an Australian-trained counsellor rather than a New Zealand one?+
Some people want the cultural fluency of a practitioner who has lived the migrant experience in a country very like New Zealand; others want the distance from a small community; many come for hypnotherapy or Reiki. If a registered New Zealand practitioner is what you need, that is the right choice.
What if I need urgent help?+
Online counselling across time zones is not suited to a crisis. If you are at risk, call or text 1737 anywhere in New Zealand, at any time, or call 111. Once you are safe, ongoing work by video may well be appropriate.
