Online Clinical Hypnotherapy for Clients in the USA

Hypnotherapy translates to video better than almost any other therapeutic method, because what it requires is not physical presence but an uninterrupted stretch of time and a voice you can follow. Taanya Nagi works this way with clients across the United States from her practice in New Delhi.

A note on titles and licensing, stated plainly. In the United States, "psychologist", "counselor" and "therapist" are protected by each individual state, and providing psychotherapy to a resident of a US state normally requires a licence from that state. Taanya Nagi is not licensed in any US state. She works with American clients as a clinical hypnotherapist, Reiki Master and holistic counsellor — not as a licensed US therapist. If you need a licensed clinician, a diagnosis, medication, or anything you intend to claim on insurance, you need a licensed provider in your own state.

What Hypnotherapy Actually Is

It is worth clearing away the stage-show associations, because they put people off something useful. Clinical hypnosis is a focused, relaxed state of concentrated attention — closer to being absorbed in a book or driving a familiar route on autopilot than to sleep or unconsciousness.

You remain aware throughout. You can hear, think, speak and stop at any point. You cannot be made to do anything you would not choose to do, and you will remember the session afterwards. What the state does provide is access to patterns that operate below deliberate reasoning, which is precisely why habits that resist willpower sometimes shift here when they have not shifted elsewhere.

What It Is Used For

What it is not used for here: severe mental illness, trauma requiring clinical care, anything needing a diagnosis, or as a substitute for medical treatment. Where someone needs licensed care, that is what they are told.

  • «Smoking cessation. One of the most established applications, and the reason many people come.
  • «Weight and eating patterns — particularly emotional eating, where the behaviour is regulating something other than hunger.
  • «Phobias and specific fears, including flying, needles, enclosed spaces and driving.
  • «Performance and exam anxiety, including presentations, interviews and auditions.
  • «Sleep difficulty, especially where the obstacle is a mind that will not settle.
  • «Nail biting and similar habits.
  • «Confidence work, and public speaking.

What a Session Involves

The first session is largely conversation — what you want to change, what you have already tried, what the pattern does for you. The hypnosis component usually begins in the first or second session and takes twenty to thirty minutes of a fifty to sixty minute appointment.

You are asked to be somewhere private, seated or reclined comfortably, with headphones, for the length of the session. Most people need between four and eight sessions, though single-issue work such as a specific phobia is sometimes shorter. Anyone promising a guaranteed one-session cure is overselling it.

On timing: India is nine and a half to twelve and a half hours ahead of the continental United States. Indian morning appointments fall in the US evening, and late Indian evenings fall in the American morning. Sessions are set at a fixed weekly time, and daylight saving shifts are handled here.

Does It Work Over Video?

Yes, and there is no meaningful reason it should not. The method depends on attention and voice, both of which transmit perfectly well. The practical requirements are a stable connection, headphones, and somewhere you will not be interrupted for the full hour — a locked room, or a parked car, which more clients use than you might expect.

The one genuine adjustment is agreeing in advance what happens if the connection drops mid-session. You would simply come out of the state on your own, as you would if the phone rang; the arrangement is that the practitioner calls straight back.

This is not a crisis service and sessions are scheduled, not on demand. If you are in the United States and in crisis, call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, available around the clock, or call 911 if you are in immediate danger.

Credentials

Taanya Nagi is a certified Clinical Hypnotherapist through the California Hypnosis Institute of India, holds an MA in Counselling Psychology, and is additionally certified in NLP and IEMT. Note that hypnotherapy is regulated differently across US states — some require registration of practitioners operating within the state — and she practises from India rather than within any US jurisdiction.

Frequently Asked

Questions & Answers

Everything you need to know before booking your first session.

Will I lose control or be made to do something?+

No. You stay aware and in control for the whole session, you can speak and stop at any point, and you cannot be made to act against your own values. The stage-hypnosis version is entertainment and bears little relation to clinical work.

Will I remember the session?+

Yes, in almost all cases — much as you remember a conversation. Some people find parts less distinct, in the way a relaxed hour can blur, but the wholesale amnesia people expect is not a normal feature.

How many sessions will I need?+

Typically four to eight. A single specific phobia can sometimes be shorter; longstanding habits with an emotional function underneath usually take longer. You should get a realistic estimate after the first session, not a guarantee before it.

Can hypnotherapy be done for children?+

It can be, and it is often effective for exam anxiety and specific fears, but it needs parental consent and involvement, and for US-based minors it is worth speaking to a licensed provider in your own state first.

Is this covered by US insurance?+

No. Insurance reimbursement requires a licensed in-network provider. These sessions are paid privately and are not reimbursable.
