Reiki Level 1 — Self-Healing
The first degree opens your energy channel and teaches you to work on yourself. You learn the history and principles of Reiki, the hand positions for a full self-treatment, and how to sense and direct energy. No prior experience is needed. Most students begin here simply wanting a daily practice for their own stress, sleep or emotional balance.
Reiki Level 2 — Treating Others
The second degree introduces the Reiki symbols and the ability to treat other people, including distance healing across time and space. This is the level most practitioners need if they intend to work with clients, and it deepens the strength of the energy considerably.
Reiki Master & Teacher Level
The Master level covers the master symbol, advanced techniques, and — for those who wish to teach — the process of attuning others. This is a commitment rather than a weekend course, and is usually taken some time after Level 2, once you have built a consistent practice.
What an Attunement Involves
An attunement is the process by which a Reiki Master opens and aligns your energy channels. Reiki is not taught in the way a technique is taught — it is transmitted from master to student. Once attuned, the ability stays with you for life and does not fade with disuse.
Each level includes a printed manual, the attunement itself, supervised practice, and a certificate on completion.
Who Learns Reiki
Students come from every background — doctors and nurses, teachers, corporate professionals, homemakers, students, yoga and meditation practitioners, and counsellors adding an energy modality to their existing work. No particular belief system is required, and Reiki sits alongside any faith or none.

How long does it take to learn Reiki?+
Level 1 is usually taught over two days, as is Level 2. The Master level takes longer and is arranged individually. Most students leave a gap of at least three months between levels so the practice has time to settle.
Do I need any experience before Level 1?+
None at all. Level 1 assumes no background in energy work, meditation or healing. An open mind and a willingness to practise daily for the first few weeks is all that is required.
Can Reiki be learned online?+
Yes. Attunements can be given at a distance, which is a standard part of the Usui system and the same mechanism used for distance healing at Level 2. Online students receive the same manual, attunement and certification as those attending in person.
Is the certification recognised?+
Certificates are issued in the Usui Shiki Ryoho lineage and trace back through Taanya's own Master lineage. Reiki is not licensed by any government body in India, so lineage and the reputation of your teacher are what carry weight.
What is the difference between learning Reiki and receiving a session?+
A Reiki session is a treatment given to you by a practitioner. A class attunes you so that you can channel Reiki yourself, for your own healing and, from Level 2, for others. If you want treatment rather than training, see Reiki therapy sessions instead.
