Female Psychologist in South Delhi

“Many people would simply rather talk to a woman. Dr. (Hon.) Taanya Nagi is a female counselling psychologist in South Delhi, seeing clients in person at Anand Niketan and online, in English, Hindi or Punjabi.”

Dr. (Hon.) Taanya Nagi holds an MA in Counselling Psychology and a Diploma in Holistic Healing & Counselling from the Holistic Living Training Institute in Melbourne, is a certified member of the Australian Holistic Healers & Counsellors Association (AHHCA), and practised in Australia for thirteen years before returning to India. She is a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, NLP Life Coach and Usui Reiki Master with more than twenty-five years of practice, and she works from a solo practice in New Delhi, in person and online, in English, Hindi or Punjabi.

The preference for a woman therapist is not a prejudice to be talked out of. For some clients it is about what they need to discuss; for others it is about who hurt them; for many it is about who they can imagine being honest with. All three are good reasons, and none of them needs to be justified at the first appointment.

Understanding Your Healing Journey

Treatment & Support

Counselling support for depression and anxiety

Who asks for a woman

  • «Women who want to talk about their marriage, their body, their mother or their in-laws without first explaining what it is like to be a woman in a North Indian family
  • «Teenage girls, usually brought by a parent, who will say things to a woman in a room that they will not say to a man, or to the parent
  • «Mothers of young children in the months after a birth, when the difficulty is hard to name and harder to admit
  • «Women in perimenopause and menopause, whose mood, sleep and irritability have changed and been dismissed
  • «Men whose history — a harsh father, an abusive relationship, or simply no experience of being listened to — makes a woman easier to speak to
  • «Families who want a woman in the room for a conversation with a daughter, a daughter-in-law or an ageing mother

What she works with

Anxiety, panic and overthinking. Depression and low mood. Relationship difficulty, marriage under strain, separation and the aftermath of an affair. Trauma, including childhood and relational trauma, worked with at the client's pace. Postpartum low mood and the identity shift of new motherhood. Family and in-law stress in joint and nuclear households. Body image, restrictive eating and emotional eating. Sexual and reproductive concerns — loss of desire, pain, fertility treatment, pregnancy loss, the decision about whether to have children — which many women prefer to raise with a woman and which are discussed plainly and without embarrassment.

Alongside talk therapy the practice offers clinical hypnotherapy, NLP-based coaching, EFT tapping and Reiki. Which of these is used, if any, is decided together after the first session and never imposed. Some clients want only to talk; that is a complete form of the work, not a lesser one.

In person at Anand Niketan or online

The consulting room is at D-96 Anand Niketan, New Delhi 110021, near Dhaula Kuan, a short drive from Vasant Vihar, Chanakyapuri, RK Puram, Moti Bagh, Shanti Niketan and Westend. It is a solo practice in a residential colony, not a clinic with a waiting room, which suits people who would rather not be seen walking into a mental-health facility. Online sessions by video are available for anyone elsewhere in Delhi NCR, in India or abroad, and many South Delhi clients move between the two as the week allows.

Confidentiality

Nothing said in a session is shared with a husband, a parent, an employer or anyone else, whoever booked or paid. That includes an adult woman whose mother made the appointment, a wife whose husband is also a client, and a teenager whose parents are waiting in the car outside. The only exceptions are the ones that safety and the law require, and they are explained at the first session rather than discovered later.

How this works

In-person sessions are at D-96 Anand Niketan, New Delhi 110021; online sessions by video are available from anywhere. Taanya is a counselling psychologist, not a psychiatrist; she does not diagnose psychiatric illness or prescribe medication, and where medication or a psychiatric assessment is indicated she will say so and refer you to a psychiatrist. This is a scheduled service, not a crisis one: in immediate danger, call Tele-MANAS on 14416, KIRAN on 1800-599-0019 or 112, or go to the nearest emergency department.

Frequently Asked

Questions & Answers

Everything you need to know before booking your first session.

Do you see men as well?+

Yes. Men are a substantial part of the practice, individually and in couples work. Some come specifically because they want a woman's perspective on a relationship; others simply want a good counsellor and have no view on gender.

Can my mother or daughter join a session?+

Yes, when it serves the work and you want it. Joint sessions with a parent or adult child are common, in English, Hindi or Punjabi, and can be a single conversation inside your own therapy rather than a separate family programme.

Is there an online option?+

Yes. Video sessions are available across Delhi NCR, India and abroad. The work is the same; only the room changes. Many clients start online and move to Anand Niketan once they are comfortable, or the other way round.

Are you a psychiatrist? Can you prescribe medication?+

No. Taanya is a counselling psychologist with an MA in Counselling Psychology and does not prescribe. If medication looks necessary she will say so and refer you to a psychiatrist, and therapy can continue alongside it if you wish.

What if I need help urgently?+

Call Tele-MANAS on 14416 or KIRAN on 1800-599-0019, both free and available around the clock, or 112. If you cannot stay safe, go to the nearest emergency department; a counselling practice cannot respond to an emergency.
