Treatment & Support

Level 1 — Self-Healing
The first degree opens your energy channel and teaches you to work on yourself. You cover the history and principles of the system, the hand positions for a full self-treatment, and how to sense and direct energy.
No prior experience is required. Most students come simply wanting a daily practice for their own stress, sleep or emotional balance, and never go further. That is a perfectly complete place to stop.

Level 2 — Treating Others
The second degree introduces the Reiki symbols and the ability to treat other people, including distance healing across space and time. This is the level required if you intend to work with clients, and most practitioners report a marked increase in the strength of the energy.

Master and Teacher Level
The Master level covers the master symbol and advanced technique. The Teacher component adds the ability to attune others, which is a genuine responsibility rather than a certificate.
This is a commitment, not a weekend. It is normally taken well after Level 2, once a consistent practice is established. Be cautious of any course offering Master level in a single sitting with no prerequisite.

What an Attunement Actually Is
A ceremony in which the teacher opens and aligns the student's energy channels. Traditionally it is described as passing on an ability rather than teaching a technique. Once attuned, the tradition holds that the ability remains for life and does not fade with disuse.

How Long It Takes
Level 1 and Level 2 are each usually taught over about two days. Most teachers ask for a gap of at least three months between them, so the practice has time to settle. Master level is arranged individually and takes considerably longer.
Anyone offering all three levels in a single weekend is selling certificates rather than teaching.

Choosing a Teacher
Ask about their lineage — the chain of teachers back to Usui — and expect a clear answer. Ask how long they have practised and taught. Ask what support is offered after the class, because questions arise once you begin practising.
Reiki is not licensed by any government body in India, so lineage and the teacher's reputation are what carry weight. There is no register to check.

Questions & Answers
Everything you need to know before booking your first session.
Can Reiki be learned online?+
Yes. Distance attunement is a standard part of the tradition and uses the same principle as the distance healing taught at Level 2. Online students receive the same manual, attunement and certification.
Do I need to be spiritual?+
No. Reiki is practised by people of every faith and of none, and requires no particular belief system. Many students come from healthcare and simply want another tool.
Is the certificate recognised?+
Within the Reiki community, lineage matters. Outside it, there is no statutory recognition anywhere in India, so a certificate is a record of training rather than a licence.
Can I charge for Reiki after Level 2?+
Many practitioners do. Whether you should depends on your experience and confidence rather than on the certificate alone. Most teachers advise practising extensively on friends and family first.
