Treatment & Support

What Makes It Uniquely Hard
- «Loss that recurs on a cycle, with hope rebuilding each month and collapsing again
- «Grief for something that never existed, which others struggle to treat as a real loss
- «A body that feels like it has failed you, and the shame that follows
- «Medical processes that are invasive, expensive and relentlessly scheduled
- «The two-week wait, which is its own particular form of suspended anxiety
- «Friends' pregnancies, baby showers and announcements that you cannot decline without explanation
- «Sex becoming a scheduled clinical task, which damages intimacy in ways that persist

The Pressure Specific to Here
In India this happens with an audience, and rarely a tactful one.
- «Direct questioning from relatives, often within months of the wedding and often in company
- «Blame directed at the woman by default, regardless of the medical facts
- «Unsolicited remedies, religious prescriptions and referrals to other doctors, offered constantly
- «Male-factor infertility going undiscussed and frequently untested, because it is not considered
- «Adoption raised dismissively as though it were a lesser outcome, or as a way of ending the conversation
- «Little private space to grieve in a household where everyone knows the cycle dates

What Counselling Offers
Deciding to stop treatment is a legitimate outcome and one people are given almost no support with. It gets the same seriousness here as continuing.
- «A place to grieve where the loss is treated as real
- «Support through treatment decisions — starting, continuing, changing clinic, or stopping
- «Work on the relationship, which absorbs enormous strain and where partners often grieve very differently
- «Managing family, including deciding what you are willing to disclose and how to decline the conversation
- «Anxiety and low mood, which are extremely common and rarely addressed by fertility clinics
- «Coming to terms with the possibility of not having a biological child, when and if that becomes the question
- «Relaxation and guided meditation for the treatment cycles themselves

Questions & Answers
Everything you need to know before booking your first session.
Can this improve my chances of conceiving?+
No, and you should be cautious of anyone who says otherwise. Stress is not why you are not conceiving, and being told to relax is both unhelpful and inaccurate. What counselling does is make the process more bearable.
My partner will not come.+
That is common, and men are frequently given no space to grieve this at all. Individual work is worthwhile regardless, and partners sometimes join later once it feels less exposing.
Everyone tells me to just relax.+
It is one of the most damaging things said to people going through this. It implies fault, and it is not supported by evidence. You will not hear it here.
Is it confidential from my in-laws?+
Completely. Nothing is discussed with family. For many clients this is the only place in the process where that is the case.
Can I come while in an IVF cycle?+
Yes, and many people do. Sessions can be arranged around the treatment schedule, including online during the two-week wait.
