Life Story Coaching & Rescripting in South Delhi

Life story coaching works on the narrative you carry about your own life — the version you have told yourself so many times that it has stopped feeling like a version at all. Sessions are held in person at Anand Niketan in South Delhi and online.

How a Story Keeps You in Place

A life story is not a lie. It is usually assembled from real events, honestly remembered. What makes it a problem is selection — which events made the final cut, and what they were taken to mean.

Someone who concluded early that they are not academic will remember every exam that went badly with clarity and file the ones that went well as flukes or luck. The recollection is accurate. The edit is not neutral. And once the edit is in place, it selects the next set of memories too.

The most costly version is the victim role, because it is the most self-sealing. If the story says things happen to you, then agency becomes hard to notice even when you have it, and every new event gets read as further confirmation. That is not a character flaw. It is what a well-established narrative does.

The premise of this work is simple and, once you see it, difficult to unsee: you have a choice. The story can be re-edited, and a different edit produces a different set of available actions.

What the Work Involves

This is not positive thinking, and it is not asking you to pretend difficult things did not happen. A rescripted story that requires you to lie to yourself will collapse the first time life tests it. The aim is a version that is honest about what happened and different about what it means.

  • «Getting the story out loud. Most people have never told it start to finish to anyone, and hearing themselves tell it is often the first shift.
  • «Finding the recurring themes — the sentences that keep returning, the role you keep occupying, the scenes you keep coming back to.
  • «Identifying the core beliefs sitting underneath the themes, usually formed early and never revisited since.
  • «Looking at what the edit left out. There is always evidence that contradicts the story; it has simply not been given weight.
  • «Working on the inner critic — whose voice it actually is, what it thinks it is protecting you from, and how to stop taking dictation from it.
  • «Rescripting: deliberately constructing a version of the story that is equally true and considerably more usable.
  • «Testing the new version against real situations, and adjusting it, until it holds under pressure.

What Changes

  • «Awareness of the narrative you have been running, which most people have genuinely never noticed
  • «Release of limiting core beliefs that were formed in childhood and never re-examined as an adult
  • «A quieter inner critic — not silenced, but no longer treated as an authority
  • «Self-talk that is on your side rather than working against you
  • «A recovered sense of agency, which is the practical result of stepping out of the victim role
  • «The ability to make choices deliberately rather than by default

Who This Is For

It suits people who are functioning — often functioning well — and who keep arriving at the same place regardless of how circumstances change. New job, same dynamic. New relationship, same ending. Different city, same feeling six months in.

It also suits people at a genuine transition: a marriage, a divorce, a move abroad, children leaving, a career ending. Transitions are one of the few moments when the story becomes visible, because it stops fitting.

It is coaching rather than clinical treatment, and it assumes a reasonably stable starting point. If you are in the middle of a depressive episode, dealing with unprocessed trauma or in crisis, counselling is the appropriate first step — and it is available at the same centre. Story work is often powerful after that, not instead of it.

Coaching, Counselling and the Overlap

Life story coaching overlaps with the NLP-informed life coaching also offered here, and with inner child work, which reaches similar material from the other direction. The rough distinction is that inner child work goes to the age the belief was formed, while story coaching works with how the belief has been narrated ever since.

Many people end up doing some of both. Which starting point suits you is usually clear within the first session, and you will be told honestly if a different approach would serve you better.

Frequently Asked

Questions & Answers

Everything you need to know before booking your first session.

Is this the same as therapy?+

No. Therapy addresses psychological difficulty and works largely with what happened and how it affected you. Life story coaching is forward-facing and works with how you have narrated what happened. It assumes you are not currently in crisis. The centre offers both, and it is common to move between them.

Do I have to talk about my childhood?+

Some of it, because that is generally where the core beliefs were formed. But you set the depth and the pace, and there is no requirement to go into detail about anything you would rather not. The focus stays on the belief and its effect today rather than on excavating the past.

How long does this take?+

It is a piece of work rather than a single session — typically six to ten sessions. The first two or three are usually spent surfacing the story before any rescripting begins, because rewriting something you have not yet clearly seen does not hold.

What if my story is genuinely difficult? Things really did happen.+

Then the story stays true. Nothing in this work asks you to minimise real events or to describe harm as a gift. What is examined is the conclusion you drew about yourself as a result, which is a separate thing from the event and is very often the part still doing damage.

Is this just positive thinking?+

No. Positive thinking asks you to overlay something cheerful on top of an unchanged belief, which is why it wears off. This works on the belief itself and on the evidence you have been discounting. The result is not relentless positivity but a more accurate and more usable account.

Can this be done online?+

Yes. It is conversation-based and works well over video. Clients across Delhi NCR, elsewhere in India, and in the UK, UAE and Australia do this work online.
