Treatment & Support

What Is Actually Happening
Procrastination is mood regulation. Faced with a task that produces an uncomfortable feeling — boredom, self-doubt, resentment, fear of doing it badly — you do something else, and the discomfort disappears immediately. That relief is powerful, and your brain records it. Next time the urge is stronger.
So the question is never 'why am I lazy'. It is 'what feeling does this specific task produce, and what am I avoiding by not starting'. The answer is usually specific and often surprising.
- «Fear of doing it badly, where a task not started cannot be judged
- «Not knowing where to begin, where the vagueness itself is the obstacle
- «Resentment at having to do it at all, which turns delay into a small protest
- «Tasks with no deadline and no external accountability, which quietly never happen
- «Boredom, which is genuinely intolerable for some people and is not a character defect
- «Exhaustion, where the honest answer is that you need rest rather than discipline

Why More Discipline Fails
Self-criticism is the standard response and it reliably makes things worse. Berating yourself adds a layer of unpleasant feeling to a task that was already generating unpleasant feeling — so the avoidance becomes more attractive, not less.
This is the cycle that keeps otherwise capable people stuck for years: procrastinate, criticise yourself, feel worse, procrastinate more, conclude you are fundamentally undisciplined. The conclusion then becomes its own obstacle.

What Coaching Does
- «Identifying, task by task, which feeling is being avoided — different tasks, different reasons, different solutions
- «Making the first action small enough that the discomfort does not trigger — genuinely small, smaller than feels reasonable
- «Removing the vagueness, since 'work on the report' is not a task and cannot be started
- «Building external structure and accountability, because internal motivation is not reliable for anyone
- «Interrupting the self-criticism, which is doing active damage
- «Where perfectionism, ADHD, anxiety or depression sit underneath it, addressing those — procrastination is often a symptom
- «NLP and Time Line Therapy where an old belief about capability is driving it

Questions & Answers
Everything you need to know before booking your first session.
Am I just lazy?+
Almost certainly not. Genuinely lazy people are untroubled by procrastination. The distress you feel about it is evidence that you want to be doing the thing — which is the opposite of laziness.
Could this be ADHD?+
It can be. If procrastination has been lifelong, spans everything, and comes with time blindness and abandoned projects, an ADHD assessment may be worth considering. That is a psychiatric assessment, not something done here, but you can be pointed towards it.
How is this different from a productivity course?+
A productivity course gives you a system. This works out why systems stop working for you, which is a different question. Once that is addressed, the systems tend to hold.
How many sessions?+
Often four to eight for procrastination on its own. Longer where it rests on perfectionism or long-standing beliefs about capability.
Is this coaching or therapy?+
It is offered as coaching, and moves into counselling if what surfaces warrants it — which it sometimes does. You would be told clearly if that is happening.
