Treatment & Support

What It Actually Costs
The paradox worth noticing is that perfectionism usually makes output worse. Perfectionists frequently produce less, later, than people with ordinary standards, because the fear of a flawed attempt prevents the attempts.
- «Paralysis — not starting, because starting badly is intolerable and everything starts badly
- «Working far longer than a task warrants, polishing things nobody will examine
- «Missing deadlines through over-preparation, then treating that as further proof of inadequacy
- «Avoiding anything you might not be immediately good at, which narrows life considerably over time
- «Ferocious self-criticism over errors other people did not notice
- «Difficulty delegating, then resentment at the workload
- «Exhaustion, and eventually burnout, because there is no point at which the work is done

Where It Comes From
Usually from an environment where worth was conditional on performance. Love that arrived with results. A household where 95 percent prompted a question about the missing five. A school system built on public rank. Praise that only ever came for outcomes, so the child concluded that the outcomes were the point of them.
A child in that environment reaches a reasonable conclusion: if I am flawless, I am safe. That belief long outlives the environment that produced it, and by adulthood the person enforcing it is you.

What the Work Involves
The aim is not to lower your standards to indifference. It is to be able to choose where excellence matters, rather than applying it uniformly and paying for it everywhere.
- «Separating standards from self-worth, which is the central move and the hardest
- «Understanding what perfectionism protects you from — usually judgement, rejection, or being found out
- «Working on the inner critic directly rather than trying to out-perform it
- «Deliberately doing things imperfectly, at a manageable scale, and discovering the predicted consequences do not arrive
- «Learning to finish rather than to keep refining, which is a distinct skill
- «Handling mistakes without a disproportionate internal response
- «Where perfectionism has produced burnout or anxiety, addressing those alongside

Questions & Answers
Everything you need to know before booking your first session.
Won't I lose my edge?+
This is the fear that keeps most people from doing anything about it, and the evidence points the other way. Perfectionism produces avoidance, delay and burnout. People generally become more productive, not less, when the fear component is reduced.
Is perfectionism the same as OCD?+
No, though they can look similar. OCD involves intrusive thoughts and compulsions performed to reduce anxiety. Perfectionism is a standard applied to yourself. They can co-exist, and are treated differently.
Is it linked to procrastination?+
Closely. A great deal of procrastination is perfectionism in disguise — not starting because the result will not be good enough. Treating the perfectionism generally resolves the procrastination.
How long does it take?+
Typically eight to fifteen sessions, since the belief is usually early and heavily rehearsed. Practical relief tends to arrive earlier than the underlying change.
Can this be done online?+
Yes, and the between-session experiments work just as well.
