What Nobody Mentions
The public account of menopause is hot flushes and periods stopping. The parts that actually derail people are rarely discussed.
Perimenopause can begin in the early forties and last for years, which is why so many women are told they are stressed, or depressed, and treated for the wrong thing.
- «Anxiety appearing for the first time in life, at fifty, with no obvious cause
- «Rage that is disproportionate and arrives without warning, then guilt about it
- «Low mood that is not the depression you may have had before and does not respond the same way
- «Brain fog severe enough that people genuinely fear early dementia
- «Confidence collapsing at work, often at the point of greatest seniority
- «Loss of libido, and the relationship strain that follows in silence
- «Sleep breaking, which amplifies every other symptom
- «A pervasive sense of not recognising yourself

The Indian Context
- «Almost no public conversation about it, so most women reach it with no preparation at all
- «Symptoms attributed to age, temperament or the general difficulty of the woman in question
- «It arriving alongside caring for ageing parents and children in exams — the heaviest years for load
- «Reluctance to discuss libido or intimacy with a doctor, so it goes unaddressed indefinitely
- «Being expected to continue running the household at full capacity throughout
- «Doctors who address the physical and never ask about mood

What Counselling Offers
- «Naming what is happening, which by itself resolves a great deal of the fear
- «Managing anxiety and mood with tools that work alongside whatever medical treatment you are having
- «Working with rage, which is real and usually has legitimate content underneath it worth hearing
- «Identity — who you are now, and grief about what is ending, including fertility even when you did not want more children
- «Relationship and intimacy conversations that have gone unspoken for years
- «Sleep work, since so much else improves when sleep does
- «Guided meditation and relaxation for symptom management
- «Deciding what changes now, since a good number of women use this period to substantially rearrange their lives

Questions & Answers
Everything you need to know before booking your first session.
Is this a substitute for HRT or seeing a doctor?+
No. See a gynaecologist about the physical symptoms and about hormone therapy. This work sits alongside that, and addresses what medicine often does not ask about.
How do I know it is menopause and not depression?+
They overlap, and both can be present. Timing, cycle changes and the particular texture of the mood shift are informative. A doctor can test; counselling can help you distinguish what is hormonal from what is situational.
Is the rage normal?+
Yes, and it is one of the most common and least discussed symptoms. It also frequently has real content — a lifetime of accommodation becoming intolerable. That deserves examination, not just management.
My husband does not understand what is happening.+
Very common. Joint sessions are available and are often useful, particularly around intimacy and irritability, where both people have usually stopped talking about it.
Can this be done online?+
Yes, and many women prefer it, especially where sleep is poor and travelling is unappealing.
